Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung’s Regional Program on Energy Security and Climate Change in the Middle East and North Africa (KAS-REMENA)›s Commitment to Sustainable Energy in North Africa

In today’s energy and geopolitical landscape, the pursuit of sustainable and secure energy solutions has become paramount. This is especially true in North Africa, where the region’s abundant renewable energy resources offer a promising path toward a greener and more prosperous future.

In the Middle East and North Africa, KAS-REMENA operates with a focus on climate change and energy security, aiming to support the region in mitigating climate change impacts and promoting cooperation, both within the region and with the European Union. Our regional program, based in Rabat since 2017, strives to strengthen dialogue and cooperation on sustainable development, enhance resource and energy security, address the challenges posed by climate change and its consequences, and support strategies and green entrepreneurial solutions for energy transition and climate change adaptation. At the heart of our mission is the belief that sustainability and resource security are vital for peace, freedom, and economic prosperity in the Middle East and North Africa.

To advance this mission, we are working on:

Facilitating regional dialogue and cross-national coordination and cooperation on concepts and measures concerning energy and resource security as well as climate change.

Promoting political framework conditions and reforms to ensure resource security, stability and peace in the MENA region in the context of climate change and energy transition

Supporting the development and implementation of strategies to prevent and to adapt to the (ecological, economic, social and security) consequences of climate change

At KAS-REMENA, we are proud to be a longstanding cooperation partner of IRESEN in implementing the World Power-to-X Summit since its inception. This year, our commitment continues with our active participation in its 3rd edition.

Focal topic: Driving Green Industrialization in North Africa

North Africa is rapidly becoming a focal point for green industrialization. The region›s commitment to decarbonization and its vast renewable energy potential make it an attractive destination for energy-intensive industries seeking to reduce their carbon footprint. By embracing green industrialization, North Africa can lead the way in regional decarbonization efforts while fostering sustainable economic growth.

Our official side event «Green Industrialization in North Africa: Driving Regional Decarbonization and Attracting Energy-Intensive Industries» during the 3rd World Power-to-X Summit brings together experts from diverse backgrounds, including regional think tanks from the MENA region and the EU and the private sector, to discuss the potentials, challenges, and strategies for green industrialization in North Africa. We›ll explore the integration of renewable energy sources into industry and examine the potential for international collaboration and funding mechanisms to support green industrial projects in the region.

We extend a warm invitation to you to join us at the side event, which is set to take place on September 20th at the Palmeraie Rotana Resort, in the B2B Space from 10:15am to 01:15pm. Your presence and insights will contribute significantly to the discussions. Together, we can drive regional decarbonization efforts and accelerate sustainable growth in North Africa.

In conclusion, KAS-REMENA is proud to be at the forefront of sustainable energy initiatives in North Africa. We look forward to meeting you during the summit and working together toward a greener, more prosperous future for North Africa and beyond.
