Dear participants, colleagues and friends, on behalf of the organizing committee, I am delighted to welcome you to the 2nd edition of the World Power-to-X Summit and to share with you this publication.

The World-PtX-Summit gathers all stakeholders interested in the topic of Green Hydrogen and its applications: Policy Makers, Regulators, Industry, Technology Providers, Project Developers, Service Providers, Researchers, Experts, Students, Innovators and Start-uppers.

Indeed, this molecule is not a magic wand to the climate change crisis, but it can contribute substantially to a deep decarbonization of our economies, through a variety of sector-coupled applications and end-uses and it opens a real opportunity to develop new industrial sectors. It will also boost the use of renewable energies in our continent and encourage the regional industrial integration. We must, therefore, be prepared to meet this energy revolution.

Morocco launched different studies on Power-t-X technologies and markets, created a national commission for Green Hydrogen involving the public and the private sectors and developed the National Hydrogen Strategy. I am also very glad to announce that we set up the first “Green Hydrogen Cluster” in Africa, to support the development of the Power-to X sector in Morocco with more than 40 companies and with the support of the Ministry in charge of Energy transition as well as the Ministry in charge of Industry. We are currently conducting in-depth studies on such kind of infrastructure and on land use planning, in order to set-up a master plan spanning infrastructure and territories issues. The objective is also to establish a regulatory framework for Hydrogen and Green Molecules, detailed Studies of the Export Markets, analysis of the green Hydrogen industry value chain to prepare the industrial integration, implementation of an R&D Roadmap as well as the preparation of funding programs and mechanisms.

Capacity building and R&D will play an important role and consequently we are developing a national R&D platform for green Hydrogen and applications, the “green H2A” with diverse pilot projects and labs, in line with the national R&D strategy. The platform led by the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), the Research Institute for Solar Energy and New Energies (IRESEN) and the OCP Group, will have diverse pilot projects and labs in line with national R&D strategy to support the universities and research centers as well as companies. We will also launch dedicated calls for proposals for Power-to-X and support the creation of labs across the country.

Moroccan researchers are already working on the topics, and we wished to take this opportunity for sharing with you some recent papers and case studies about the hydrogen potential in Morocco as well as for some specific regions and applications. You will also find very insightful articles about modeling and simulation of a hybrid PV and Wind turbine installation coupled with a PEM electrolyzer and hydrogen generation process via photoelectrochemical water splitting.
